Whip Clark Statement on House Passage of Tax Agreement

Wednesday, January 31, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement after the House passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024:

“Since its expiration, House Democrats have fought for a renewed expansion of the Child Tax Credit — a powerful tool in the fight against childhood poverty.

“Despite over a year of MAGA chaos and inaction, Democrats’ advocacy has resulted in a major step forward. This three-year expansion will strengthen the financial security of working families and the wellbeing of 16 million children — including 182,000 in Massachusetts.

“What’s more, we secured an expansion of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit that will put a roof over the heads of 200,000 households and help address America’s dire affordable housing crisis.

“We still have much more work to do. While the House Republican Majority devoted most of this week to political theater, House Democrats remain committed to finding solutions that lower costs, build safer communities, and grow the economy by growing the middle class.”
