Delta News TV: Congressman Bennie Thompson Visits GLH

Wednesday, June 18, 2025

John McCall has heard about the work that Congressman Thompson is doing for the hospitals in the delta and says he's grateful.

“I think that it’s a great benefit for the hospital, you know as a whole, because we got a lot of funding that’s something that's really needed for our hospitals and for our residents.” McCall says.

That’s why congressman Bennie Thompson and Democratic Whip Katherine Clark took a tour of Greenwood Leflore Hospital on Wednesday.

While on the tour, the board of GLH displayed several departments in the hospital that are essential for the hospital’s operation.

“Part of the healthcare strategy in this country does not include rural hospitals. It’s kind of survival of the fittest.” Thompson says.

After the tour, Thompson and Clark, along with members of the city council and the hospital board met in a meeting to discuss concerns and needs for the hospital going forward.

“This is a part of that listening session that members of congress are doing all over the country to try and hear from the people who do it every day.” Thompson says

Thompson also is hopeful that what they’ve discussed can continue to push the hospital in a positive direction, so folks like McCall can continue to make use of the hospital.

“And who knows maybe we might get a whole lot of people to come back to the delta, because they have hope, and they know they’ve got a hospital that’s up and running.”  McCall says

And more people means that the hospital can stay open longer and can save more lives.
