Clyburn On Passage Of Emergency Supplemental
March 23, 2007

“This vote put us on the glidepath to ending the war in Iraq.  Passage of the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Health and Iraq Accountability Act of 2007 lets the American people know that Democrats are serious about moving in a new direction; serious about changing course in Iraq; serious about responding to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma; serious about honoring and protecting the men and women fighting in harms way; serious about providing for our veterans who are suffering from broken promises of this administration and previous Congresses; and we’re serious about America becoming America again.”

Clyburn On Starting The Fifth Year Of The Iraq War
March 19, 2007

“I see this solemn anniversary as the beginning of the end.  After more than 3,200 U.S. troops have died, more than 20,000 U.S. troops have been wounded, and more than $400 billion of taxpayer dollars have been appropriated, this is the first time a Congress is changing the course in Iraq.  The Democratic majority is reinstating oversight and accountability of the administration, ending the blank check for the president’s war, and setting a timeline for the phased redeployment of our U.S. military.  By August 2008 at the latest, U.S. combat troops will be redeployed from Iraq.
